Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Mar 6, 2024 (Issuewire.com) – Established more than half a century ago, the National Champion, Jit Sin High School Chinese Orchestra set foot in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas and marked another historical high for the group and school. The said Chinese Orchestra is made up of High School Students, and led by a renowned Conductor Mr. Lim Soon Oo from Penang. The team has achieved many milestones under the leadership of Mr. Lim and his fellow instructors as well as Jit Sin High School’s advisor teachers. One of the many milestones is the Many Times Consecutive National Champion Title for the Chinese Orchestra Competition in the Open Category. The orchestra has trained, shaped, and molded many young hearts and youth musicians. One of the highest achievements of this orchestra, includes winning the Gold Medal in the 3rd Beijing Folk Music Invitation Meet.

“The students are very excited about having the opportunity to perform in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas, a venue that stands as a pinnacle of musical excellence. They are practicing harder than when they were competing in the National Competition. The morale remains high and I believe they will put up an unforgettable and memorable show for all the audiences”. says Madam Ang Kooi Looi, the Principal of Jit Sin High School.

Unlike the Symphony Orchestra, Chinese Musical Instruments used to give the impression of playing only funeral tunes and opera music and was very unpopular even among the Chinese community. Jit Sin High School Chinese Orchestra under the leadership of renowned musician and Conductor Mr. Lim Soon Oo for the past 30 years, has been systematically trained and led to be self-managed by the student members, and self-sustained by the school. Mr. Lim, who graduated from Beijing University Master Degree in Cultural Art Management, is one of the few Musicians from Malaysia made an Honorary Committee Member of the Conducting Professional of the Chinese National Orchestral Society. As a passionate and dedicated Music Educator, Mr. Lim has coached many Chinese Orchestra and young musicians in Malaysia. To many of his students, he is more than a coach and a conductor, he is also their role model.

The program rundown of this concert was carefully planned to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of China-Malaysia Ties. Li BoChan’s The Song of Chu, originally was Er-hu Duet Concerto, now rearranged to have Er-hu Cello Duet, is a new attempt at combining Chinese and Western musical instruments. Audiences can expect to be transported by ancient tunes from mysterious distant lands on a spellbinding journey through time and culture. Other than the Ancient Chinese pieces, audiences can expect to experience beautiful plays of classic Malay songs organized by famous Taiwan composer Lu LiangHui, and many other classical Chinese Orchestra pieces and Chinese Orchestra Chamber music.

“The program was specially picked to introduce the Chinese Orchestra to more Malaysians (especially other ethnic groups Malaysian) and the Foreigner staying in Malaysia. We want to share with the world the ability and the rich characters of Chinese Musical Instruments. And when arranged in the Orchestra, the Chinese Orchestra can be as majestic as a symphony orchestra.” said Mr. Lim
