The debut of Apple’s first MacBook Pro featuring OLED technology is still a few years away, as the necessary production infrastructure is yet to be established within Apple’s supply chain.
While Apple is set to release its OLED iPad Pro lineup next year, the transition to OLED for the MacBook Pro will require more time due to the need for specific production lines. According to Ross Young, founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, during a recent webinar hosted by Bloomberg, we can expect the first MacBook Pro models with OLED displays to be revealed no earlier than 2026 or 2027, assuming everything goes as planned.
However, meeting these expectations is uncertain, as manufacturers have not yet set up dedicated production lines for the 14-inch and 16-inch versions of the MacBook Pro. The webinar did not delve into the cost of these OLED panels, but it’s essential to note that not all OLED displays are created equal. Given Apple’s commitment to incorporating high-quality components in its products, the cost of these displays may be significant. For the iPad Pro, Apple has already enlisted Samsung and LG for mass-producing LTPO OLED screens, and it’s likely that these tablets will also support ProMotion technology.
